It is very important that ballplayers get to the Sideways Position before they throw because that increases the likelihood that they will throw the ball with their entire body and not just their arm.
One way that I work on this with ballplayers is that, when playing catch with them, I will walk around them in a large circle as we play catch and have them focus on getting to the Sideways Position before every throw.
That can help the ballplayer become more conscious of their foot work when they throw.
